Portals Overview

Depending on your user role (teacher, administrator, etc.), portal homepages do vary, but many features are the same for everyone. Let's explore those common features first.

Starting At the Top

All users have the following links located at the top of their portal:

  • Your Name - Use this link to jump back to your portal homepage
  • Settings - Edit details such as your name, login name, password, and email address.
  • Question Mark - You can use this link to get to the Help pages but can also access the link to submit a help ticket to our highly qualified, warm and friendly support staff.
  • Logout - Prevents others from jumping into your account if you walk away from your computer.

Special features icons are also located near the top of your portal homepage, although their exact placement may be different from the image above.

  • Calendar Icon - A monthly calendar displaying all event published by you or for you.
  • Groups Icon - Collaborate with other users in your school or even with other users in your district (sorry Standard Standalone users, an upgrade is required for district wide groups).
  • My Locker - personal digital locker
  • My Website - personal website

The Rest Of The Portal

 

The exact set of features for the rest of your portal depends on your role and the product purchased for your school. All those roles and product specific features are covered in detail through these help pages, but the following features are common to all portals for all users:

  • Portal - Includes buttons to publish news, notes, and events, along with links to build and edit your personal website. Additional tools included on your portal depend on your specific role.Staff Portal.jpg
  • Calendar of Events - A weekly calendar displaying all event published by you or for you. Day and month views are available as well as filters for types of events.
  • News - The most recently published news that applies to you. Hover to the right of a news item, click the "X" to remove from portal. Click View All to see all published news.
  • Discussions - A summary of the most recent posts to discussions in which you participate.
  • Projects - The most recent posts to discussions from Group Projects.

Teacher Portal

In addition to the features listed above, the teacher portal also contains Current Assignments. Any work currently assigned but not yet due will appear in this list.

Admin Portal

Principal, Assistant Principal, System Admin roles have rights to manage the user accounts for that site. For this purpose, there is a horizontal menu bar near the top of the page; click User Management to display.

Using this menu, administrators may register users, edit their accounts, and monitor usage. School Loop Standard sites do not include student and parent accounts, so those menu choices are not available. If the optional Directory Services integration are in use, there is an additional menu choice for activating user accounts.

Administrators also have rights to school settings. There are two settings: Hide or show the email icon in the staff directory of the school website and an import ID utility to be used when upgrading to School Loop Plus.

District Admins

Like administrators for school sites, the District Admin account has rights to manage user accounts; click User Management to display account types. Note that the roles available for the district site are limited compared to school sites. If directory services are in use, there will be an additional menu choice to activate user accounts. District admins can assign Webmaster rights to any district user with the Select Webmasters link.

Additionally, the District Admin role can link to any school site in the district and has full admin rights for those sites.

The School Site List link in the Toolbox on the portal homepage provides access to all other school sites.     

Request School Site and Request Status allows a district admin to add additional School Loop sites for schools in their district and to check on the status of those requests.

School Statistics and Teacher Statistics provide usage statistics for all schools or teachers in the district. More information on using the downloaded text files can be found on the District Stats Help page.

Broadcast Messages allows district administrators to send messages via email (not LoopMail) to all registered users of selected schools in the district.

Note: This feature is part of Unification, which requires separate licensing.

Select Support Reps is for districts who choose Webmaster-only support which provides access to our help ticket system for up to 3 registered District Admin or Staff users.
